STACYVILLE, IOWA — Irma M. Bush, 84, of Stacyville, died Sunday, February 28, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Irma was born in Stacyville, Iowa along the Little Cedar River, the daughter, of Joseph Clark Kinney (1883-1969) and Ida (Gerbig) Kinney. Her birthplace was near the river bank where her father was a miller at the Grain Mill. She lived there until she was four years old and then moved to the country. While living there, Irma attended Little Cedar School.
She began her fourth year of education at the new Visitation Academy in Stacyville, Irma graduated from High School in 1933.
She first began work as a clerk in the Stacyville Post Office after her graduation. She worked one year. For seven years, she worked at the Jacob E. Decker office.
Irma married Burtis Bush in St. Louis, Missouri in 1942.
In 1951, she returned as a clerk at the post office. Her husband was appointed postmaster in 1953. She served as clerk until her appointment as postmaster which came about with the retirement of her husband in October, 1974. She served as postmaster until her retirement on November 30, 1976. Burtis Bush died in 1987.
Irma enjoyed reading and visiting with friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 until 8 p.m. today in the church hall, with a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture service.
Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by one son, Dr. David Bush, of Manchester, Massachusetts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burtis in 1987; two sisters, Kathryn Mackin and Mildred Lack.
