JOHN BROST DIES IN SLEEP AT AGE OF 87
John Brost, 86, who had lived in Canby since his retirement from farming, died in his sleep at his rooming house, 208 Lacqui Parle Avenue sometime Wednesday night or Thursday morning of last week. He had not been feeling well recently but had been up and around Wednesday.

Services took place Tuesday morning at St. Peter's Catholic Church, the Rev. Joseph Nuedecker officiating and burial was in St Peter's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Winkels, Jack Nichols, Henry Koenig, Henry Jemmings, Dan Crowley and Matt Hoffman.

Born in Stacyville, IA January 18,1874, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Brost. He grew up and attended school in the Stacyville community and lived there until he was about 25 years old when he came to this community which was his home the rest of his life.

Mr. Brost never married. He is survived by a sister, Sister Stella of Dubuque, Iowa and a brother Matt of Huntington Park, California and several nieces and nephews.
Since his retirement Mr. Brost came to be well known in Canby and performed various odd jobs as a service to residents. One of his jobs was unique, the daily raising and lowering of awnings for several merchants.
