RICEVILLE — Clarence W. Ring, 88, of Riceville, died Monday (May 4, 1998) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Riceville, with the Rev. Matthew Versemann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Vistitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Conway Funeral Home with a 5 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Clarence W. Ring was born April 12, 1910, at Riceville.

Survivors include one son, William, of Manly; one daughter, Linda Kinneman, of Riceville; two stepsons, Richard Jones, of Lodi, Wis., and Thomas Jones, of Guam, U.S.A.; one stepdaughter, Beverly Valencia, of Waukegan, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two stepchildren, five brothers and three sisters.

Clarence Ring, 88, died on Monday, May 4, 1998, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center after a short illness. Before becoming ill, he lived at his home in Riceville.

Funeral services will be held on thursday, May 7, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with Rev. M. Versemann officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery south of Riceville. Conway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Riceville volunteer fireman will be casket bearers.

Clarence William Ring was born on April 12, 1910, on a farm three and three-quarter miles southeast of Riceville, to August and Minnie Ring. He attended rural school near Riceville.

He married Edith Jones McIlenney in 1947 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville. He loved hunting, gardening and carpentering. He was a member of the Mitchell County Conservation Board for 25 years, Riceville volunteer fire chief for 30 yeras, and served in the fire department for 40 years.

He was a trustee at St. Peter's Lutheran Church for a number of years and was instrumental, along with Buck Hendricks, in the planning and construction of Lake Hendricks. He later maintained the lake until it was turned over to Howard County. Many community projects were realized through Clarence's help -- St. Peter's Lutheran Church fellowship hall, Pinicon Manors, Farmers Telephone office, the dental office, the stone entrance to the Riceville Community Club and many others.

He is survived by his children, Linda Kinneman and her husband Larry of Riceville, William Ring and his wife Cathy of Manly; stepchildren: Beverly Valencic of Waukegan, Illinois; Richard Jones and his wife Bev of Lodi, Wisconsin; and Thomas Jones of Guam; a stepson-in-law Edward Pichelman of Waukegan, Illinois; 17 grandchildren; Shannon Fritcher of Mason City; Lacy Kinneman of Riceville, Landon Ring of Manly, Christopher Ring of Manly, Dwayne Engelhardt of East China, Michigan, Taffy Pfaehler of Ranklin, Indiana, Sherri Howells of Sycamore, Illinois, Tara Pichelman of Zion, Illinois, James Pichelman of Beach Park, Illinois, Gary Pichelman of Waukengan, Illinois, Shiela Bennet of Waukegan, Patrick Jones of Lodi, Wisconsin, and Joey and Timothy Jones of Guam.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Fred, Emily, John, Harry and Charles; three sisters: Lizzie Miller, Annie Utesch and Lena Kruger, a stepdaughter, Patricia Pichelman; and two grandchildren, Robert Engelhardt and Nancy Pichelman.
