Johann Friedrick Ferdinand Wilde was born on April 21, 1848, the son of Friedrick and Johanna (Lemke) Wilde in Rossow, Kreis Saatzig, province of Pommern, Germany, now Rosowo, Poland. He died on July 9, 1931 and is buried in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Rock Township, east of Grafton.
He was baptized in Rossow, and confirmed in 1862 in Uchtenhaugen, now Krzynica, Poland. In 1867 at the age of 19 he came to America and settled near Watertown, Wisconsin. Here he undertook the trade for which he had received his certificate in Germany, namely, that of a carpenter. His parents, brothers and sisters came to America the following year.
He married Augusta Frederika Wilhelmina Tesch March 1, 1872 in St. John's Lutheran Church in Watertwon, Wisconsin. Shortly afterward they came to Mitchell County and settled in Rock Township and lived most of those years on the SE 1/4 of Sec. 9 near St. John's Church.
One of the early residents of Mitchell County was the Ferdinand and Augusta Wilde family. They were prominent farmers in the area and pioneer, charter members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Rock Township where they loved to worship and gave much support. Mr. Wilde helped build the church in 1874. He also built many home in the area. When his children became old enough to do most of the farm work it gave him time to continue his carpentry trade.
Their children included: Their children included: Herman, born April 22, 1873 and died May 6, 1942; Mathilda (Mrs. Albert) Diedrich, born October 18, 1875 and died February 10, 1952; Carl, Born March 12, 1877 and Died October 17, 1963; Anna (Mrs. William) Bublitz, born February 14, 1881 and died June 30, 1959; Emma (Mrs. Emil) Bublitz, born June 18, 1883 and died August 11, 1952; Marie (Mrs. Carl) Neuman, born June 12, 1885 and died June 18, 1912; Augusta (Mrs. William) Eske, born August 7, 1887 and died June 9, 1978; August, born August 8, 1889 and died June 9, 1890; Selma (Mrs. Emil) Steinbert, born October 3, 1891 and is still living in St. Ansgar; Edvina (Mrs. Leonard) Walk, born January 11, 1895 and died March 8, 1970 and Eleanora (Mrs. Walter) Hinsman born July 27, 1897 and is living at the Good Samaritan Home in St. Ansgar.
Augusta Wilde died on Feb 11, 1931 and Ferdinand died July 8, 1931.
All the children lived their entire lives in Mitchell County except Anna, Edvina and Mathilda who lived in Worth County after marriage.
When Ferdinand and Augusta retired to St. Ansgar their son, Henry, took over the farm. A grandson, the Elmer Wilde family, is living on this farm today.
