William ‘Bill’ Adams
STACYVILLE, IOWA — William "Bill" Adams, 76, of Stacyville, died Thursday (Feb. 19, l998) at Heritage Care Center, Mason City.
A memorial Mass and services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Inurnment will be in Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville, with military honors by Stacyville American Legion Post 569.
The family will receive family and friends in the Visitation Church Hall beginning at 2:30 p.m. Monday. There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:30 p.m.
William was born August 27, l921, in Stacyville, the son of Nicholas and Mary (Pint) Adams. He received his education in Stacyville and graduated from Visitation High School.
On Nov. 9, l952, Bill married Ada "Ann" Barber in Plymouth, Mich. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he returned to Stacyville and worked with his father as a carpenter in their construction business.
Bill was a scout leader for several years. He was a member of Stacyville American Legion Post 569. He was a former member of the Stacyville City Council and worked diligently on the renovation project of the Stacyville Dam and the dredging of the river.
A proud moment in his life was when he received his pilots license. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying.
He is survived by his wife Ada "Ann" Adams, Stacyville; four daughters, Joyce Buttolph, Austin, Minn., Janice Trowbridge and husband, George, Pensacola, Fla., Jody Cox, Mason City, and June Carter and husband, Walter, Stacyville; three sons, John Adams and wife, Trudy, Stacyville, Joseph Adams and wife, Pat, Virginia Beach, Va., and Jerome Adams and wife, Marilyn, Stacyville; one daughter-in-law, Sheila Adams, White House, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Anna L. Adams, Stacyville; and 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James; a sister, Carmella Indra; a brother-in-law, Ben Indra; a brother, Keith; and dear friends, Bob Barber and Mac Maclaren
