Alvin George Kroneman was born in Rock Township, Mitchell County, on Oct. 24, 1910, to Carl Kroneman and Mary Emma (Neumann) Kroneman. He was one of nine children.
He lived his entire life in Mitchell County and farming was his passion and livelihood. He was married to Pauline Edith Thompson on April 14, 1940, at St. John's Lutheran Church, and began leading the life which they both loved of farming, tending cattle and carrying on the Kroneman tradition of hard work an enjoying every minute. Watching Alvin run from one project on the farm to another was a common site. They farmed in Rock Township for almost 40 years.
The love of farming and hard work was passed on to their only son, Allan Dean Kroneman. Attending State Fair and showing cattle was a highlight. Alvin and Pauline enjoyed ballroom dancing at the Terp to the Lawrence Welk Band. Alvin served as member of the Fair Board for Mitchell County and a 4-H leader for many years.
Upon retirement in 1976 they moved to St. Ansgar. Alvin continued to work hard, spending much time with Allan and Joann in southern Iowa farming, still running from one project to another. In his time off and later years he took pride in his friendship at the Co-op in St. Ansgar and riding the country roads with friends, which was a joyful pass time.
