Funeral services for Rene Marcel Pattyn, 85, of St. Ansgar were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 2, at the St. Ansgar Catholic Church.

Mr. Pattyn died Saturday, December 31 at a Stacyville nursing home.

The Reverend John Smith officiated and burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery. Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pattyn was born September 25, 1898, in Sanliss, France to Charles and Sedomie Pattyn. He spent his early childhood in south Belgium, migrating to the United States in 1914, where he worked for a while in Omaha, Nebraska.

He met and married Martha Lievrouw in Manly in 1921. He spent the remainder of his life in the Carpenter – St. Ansgar area, where he worked as a farmer, dynamiter and carpenter until he retired.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Elmore (Evona) Sandberg, Robinsdale, Minnesota; Mrs. Jack (Mary) Vrell, Milan, Illinois; Mrs. Maurice (Leona) Kleckner, St. Ansgar, and Mrs. Kenneth (Irene) Michels, New Haven; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
