LOCAL FARMER IS
KILLED IN FALL
OFF HAY WAGON

John Slaichert Lost Footing
When Loading Hay in
Orlo Jensen Field

John Slaichert was instantly killed Tuesday at about 1 p.m. when he fell from a load of hay at the Orlo Jensen farm, three miles north of Osage. Mr. Slaichert was helping the renter, Mr. Jensen, along with a group of other neighbors, in putting up hay.

One man was driving the tractor and Mr. Slaichert was on the wagon hitched to it. As the outfit rounded a corner. Mr. Slaichert lost his footing and fell forward, his head striking the tongue of the wagon, breaking his neck and killing him instantly. A doctor was summoned, but of course, the unfortunate man was beyond help.

John Slaichert was born in Prague, Czecho-Slovakia, May 16, 1892 and came to America when a boy. He came to Mitchell County where his brother, William was already located and he has lived in this vicinity since, with the exception of a short time spent in Chicago.

He was married in Chicago, and he and his wife are parents of an 8-year-old son, Jerry**. They survive him, also his brothers, William and Joe, and a sister, Mrs. Mike Saraga, Riceville; also their aged mother, 84, and a brother and two sisters in Slovakia.

Deceased was a renter on the W. P. Bennett farm, and had been engaged in farming since coming to America.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Bohemian hall at Mitchell, in charge of the Z.C.B.T. association. The speaker will be Reverend Charles Funfan, of Myrtle, Minnesota, and burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.
