Karen (Karine) L. Ask was born July 28, 1856, at Highland Prairie, near the town of Highland, Fillmore County, Minnesota. She was one of the six children of Lars Trulsen and Tolline Oldsdatter Ask.
She married Olavus (Olaus) O. Krogstad at St. Ansgar on January 27, 1880. Olavus was born March 8, 1853, at Eker Parish, Prestegjeld, near Drammen, Norway.
The couple lived at Bruce, South Dakota on a farm that Olavus had homesteaded. Here their first child, Oscar Ludwig, was born. Three years later, they moved to Grafton, North Dakota, and then to Mitchell County in 1888. They farmed west of Osage until moving to Osage in 1910. Their home was at tenth and Chase Streets. Olavus served six years as county supervisor of the fourth district and was at one time a trustee of Osage Lutheran Church.
Karen died June 14, 1938 and Olavus on October 28, 1933. They are buried at the Osage Cemetery.
Olavus and Karen were the parents of seven children. One son, Anton Theodore died in 1919 during the influenza epidemic. His wife was the former Inga Berg. The other six Krogstad children are: Oscar Ludvig, married Laura Staff. They had ten children. Tilda Emilie married Theodore Neson. They had two children. Gustav Adolph married Emma Nelson. They had three children. Olga Amanda married Lawrence Olsen. They had four children. Cora Odella married Irvin Olsen. they had two sons. Selma Elvina married Arthur Rosenquist. They had three children.
