MARTIN RASMUSSEN

MASON CITY: Martin Rasmussen, of Mason City, formerly of the Riceville area, died Friday (March 26, 2004) at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. at the age of 74.
Martin Eugene Rasmussen was born on July 9, 1929, in Crystal Lake, the son of Martin and Winifred Rasmussen.

As a small boy, the family moved to a farm northwest of Riceville, between McIntire and Riceville.

He received his education in the rural school near his home in Mitchell County.
Following his education he started working at the Phillips 66 in Mclntire.
He served in the U.S. Army from January of 1951 until January of 1953, maintaining the Army’s fleet of trucks.

Martin spent most of his life in Mason City area working for many years as a refrigeration mechanic and later, along with his wife, Jane, was owner of Jane R Media, servicing the media needs of the area schools.
Martin became sick and was sent to the V.A. Hospital in Marshalltown and later to the hospital in Minneapolis.

He is survived by his children: Michael Rasmussen of San Diego. Calif., and Maria Anderson of Mason City; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his mother, Winifred Clausen of St. Ansgar; two brothers: Archie Rasmussen of Mason City, and Roger Rasmussen of Nora Springs; and one sister, Darlene Summer of Floyd.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Conway Funeral Home, 407 Woodland Ave. in Riceville, with Michael Carey, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Riceville, officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Riverside Cemetery, with military rites alongside his father.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the Conway Funeral Home in Riceville.
