St. John's Lutheran

Funeral services for Mrs. Maria T. Steinberg, 94, who died at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center Sunday, February 19, [1978] were held on Tuesday, February 21 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Township, with the Reverend Richard Zellmer officiating.

Maria Therese (nee Beyer) Steinberg, youngest child of Julius and Ernestine (nee Brusewitz) Beyer, was born September 16, 1883, in Rock Township, Mitchell County.

She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church October 28, 1883 by he Reverend J. L. Zerlinger. She attended rural school near her home, and was confirmed March 29, 1896 by the Reverend J. Westenberger.

As a young woman, Mrs. Steinberg did housework for a number of families in the area. June 2, 1904 she married William Steinberg, with the Reverend J. Becker officiating. They lived on a farm in Newburg Township for more than 50 years. Three sons were born to them. From 1937 until her husband's death in 1969 they made their home with their son, Harold, on the home farm. For the past five years Mrs. Steinberg had been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center here.

Mrs. Steinberg was the last living member of her family, and was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sons, Harold and Lawrence.

She is survived by one son, Elmer, of St. Ansgar; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
