William Priem was born in Germany and came to America at age 15. His parents were Carl and Charlotte (Laurich) Priem, Sr.

He returned to Wisconsin in 1871 and married Mary Goldspohn** who was born in Roxbury, Wisconsin. They moved to Mitchell County in 1871. They then purchased from his father, 260 acres for $39.00 per acre. To this he later added 320 acres in sections 17 and 8. William and Mary grew grain and fed hogs and cattle plus milking cows. It was not unusual for them to ship a carload of cattle to Chicago.

Their children were: Louise, Priem Cawelti, Minni Priem Cawelti, Albert, Edward, Maria who died in infancy and Harry Priem. They farmed until 1912 when their son, Edward took over the operation with hired help.

During their lifetime they donated land for an Evengelical Church on their farm and were members until 1907 when the church was abandoned and they joined the Methodist Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa.

On their deaths in 1918 and 1925, they were buried in the St. Ansgar City Cemetery.
