Brede Wamstad, 1878-1971

Funeral services for Brede Wamstad, 93, prominent Mitchell County resident, were held Monday at Rock Creek Lutheran church, rural Osage. Mr. Wamstad died Friday October 15th at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

The Rev. Donald L. Berg, church pastor, was in charge of the services, and burial was made in Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery. Champion Funeral Home of Osage made the arrangements.

Brede Wamstad was born in Rock Township, Mitchell County on April 17, 1878 to Andrew and Ingeborg Flatla Dynna Wamstad. He was baptized and confirmed at Rock Creek Lutheran church, where he remained an active and faithful member for his entire life.

In addition to his many church activities, he was involved in many community and state activities. He served in the Iowa legislature during five general assemblies, beginning in 1921. He was also a farmer and served in various capacities with farm organizations, including the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Osage and the Co-op Oil Company. He retained his interest in these activities until near the time of his death.

On June 29, 1905 he was married to Inga Katherine Rone of Northwood. To this union was born one daughter, Constance Ingeborg. During recent years he made his home with his daughter and her family in Omaha until entering Faith Home in July of this year.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine on April 28, 1952; a sister, Della Wamstad on June 16, 1963; and by Ludvig Dynna and Lise Marie Dynna Klemesrud, children of his mother's previous marriage to Lars Dynna.

He in survived by his daughter, Constance (Mrs. Carlin) Bucknam of Omaha, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

#2: BIOGRAPICAL SKETCH

BREDE WAMSTAD Osage Mitchell County Republican. Representative from Mitchell county, was born in that county April 17, 1878. Attended the rural schools and later the St. Ansgar Seminary and Institute. Graduated from the normal course in 1899. Married June 29, 1905, to Catherine Rone of Worth county, Iowa. Has one daughter, Constance. Appointed deputy county auditor of Mitchell county in 1903.

Has served as secretary of school board, township assessor, director of the Osage Farmers' Co-operative Grain and Supply Company, secretary-treasurer, and one of the incorporators of the Farmers' Union Live Stock Commission of Chicago and South St. Paul.

Is at present a member of the county board of education, township trustee, director of the Co-operative Oil Company at Osage, Iowa, and president of the Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Association of Mitchell county. Has been actively engaged in farming since the spring of 1906. Served as representative from Mitchell county during the 39th, 40th, 40th extra, 42nd, 42nd extra, 43rd and 44th general assemblies; again elected as state representative for Mitchell county in 1942. A member of the Lutheran church.
