DURBEN, Edmund J. 1901-1945

Edmund J. Durben, 43, son of Mrs. Rose Durben, died suddenly on July 23, 1945, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He had been troubled with an ingrown goiter, which had caused the loss of his voice. He regained the power of speech after treatment in the University hospital in Iowa City, although the goiter was slowly growing to his heart.

Edmund J. Durben, son of Joseph and Rose Durben, was born on November 28, 1901, on a farm near Meyer, Iowa.

He was married to Theresa Vogds of Marytown, Wisconsin, August 20, 1929. One son was born to this couple. He operated a garage in Meyer until several Years ago, when he and his family moved to Stacyville. For the past four years he had been employed in Waterloo.

Surviving are his son, Vernon, who is living in Florida; his mother, Mrs. Rose Durben; five brothers and seven sisters.

Funeral services were held at Visitation Church in Stacyville on Wednesday, July 25, 1945, with the Rev. Mr. Lohberg officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meyer, wtih the Rev. Manternach performing the rites at the grave.

NOTES:

**Edward used the spelling "Durbin" instead of his birth surname of "Durben".

Another obituary said his given name was "Edward", and his surname as Durbin".
See #2 below.

He was the son of Joseph D. Durben and Rosa Mary (Hemann) Durben.

The cemetery listing for Sacred Heart Cemetery at Meyer gives his name as Edmund Durben.

Edmunds wife, Teresa (Vogds) Durben, remarried after the divorce, to Al Halverson.

Edward Durbin, 44, of 611 1/2 Sycamore street, died at 5:30 am Monday in Allen Memorial hospital of an embolism. Resident of Waterloo for the past four years, employee of the Eagles lodge.

Mr. Durbin was born in Stacyville, Iowa, on November 28, 1901, son of Joseph and Rosa Durben. He resided in Stacyville until he was about 30, then lived in various Iowa towns until his moving to Waterloo in 1941. He married Theresa Vogds in 1932, and later was divorced.

Surviving are one son, Kuno Vernon, 12 living with his mother in Florida; his mother, Stacyville, and five brothers, Kuno, Stacyville; Walter, Richmond California; Arthur, Henry and Gilbert, all of Meyer, Iowa. His father, one brother and a sister, preceded him in death.

The body will be taken from O'Keefe & Towne funeral home to Stacyville for funeral services there Wednesday. He will be buried at the Meyer Catholic Cemetery.
