She was the daughter of Nicholas and Anna Maria Hemann , born November 17,1850 , in McHenry county , Johnsburg , Illinois . At the age of 4 , on May 31, 1855 , she came with her parents by covered wagon drawn by oxen , and settled on the homestead now owned by her brother , Mathias Hemann . Her whole life was spent here , with the exception of a few years in Minnesota . When she first came to Stacyville township, Stacyville was but a dream . For years they done their shopping and grain selling at McGregor , Iowa . Many Indians made their camping place on the Hemann homestead , but they were all friendly . It was the headquarters for all the early settlers .

To this union were born twelve children , eight of whom are left to mourn her great loss . Nick C ., of Napoleon , ND ; John C ., and Mrs . Forcier of Stewart MN ; Mrs . Her husband preceded her in death four years ago .
Friends from far and near also came to pay homage to one of our pioneer mothers , who did her part in making our little town a better and happier place to live in .
