Julia (Joran) Anderson Benson 1863-1948Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Benson, 84, were held Thursday morning at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. The Rev. S.O. Sorlien officiated and burial was made in the Rock Creek cemetery.
Mrs. Benson, a former Meroa area resident, had been living with her daughter, Mrs. A.C. Decker at Inkster, MI where she died Tuesday, March 30, 1948.
Joran Anderson was born in Goodhue County, MN on May 6, 1863 to Kittel and Sigrid Anderson. In the spring of 1879, she moved with her parents, sister and brothers to Walsh County, ND where they settled on a homestead.
She was united in marriage to Helleck Benson of the Meroa area on March 30, 1882. To this union seven children were born.
After their marriage, the Bensons lived near Grafton, North Dakota about four years. They then purchased a farm near Rudd, Iowa, where they lived until 1900. They sold the farm and moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and later to Edmore, North Dakota. They lived here until failing health forced them to leave their home and lived with their children. Mr. Benson died on November 24, 1946.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. A.C. (Mabel) Decker and Mrs. Gilbert (Nora) Sanderson of Glenville, Minnesota; and two sons, George Benson of Virginia, Minnesota, and Winfred Benson of Waterloo. Seventeen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive. Three sons, Lawrence, Selmer, and Carl, preceded their parents in death.

Her mother died when Joran was only two years old, probably from complications of childbirth.
