OSAGE, IOWA — Grace I. Havig, 85, of Osage, died Sunday (March 22, 1998) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Champion Funeral Home in Osage, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
Grace Ione Havig was born May 20, 1912, near Osage, the daughter of Frederick and Ida (Hartwig) Havig. She attended rural schools until the fifth grade and continued her education in the Osage schools and graduated from Osage High School and was class valedictorian.
Being skilled in the field of office and secretarial duties, she worked in several Osage offices and did volunteer work.
Grace gave many years of service, typing and keeping records for her church. She also taught Sunday school at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for many years.
She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. High on her list of activities was corresponding with family members and keeping up with world and local news.
She had been a resident of Osage Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Osage for the past 13 years.
She is survived by four sisters, Dorothy Fleenor, of Osage; Leona Richards and her husband, Glenn, of Carpenter; June Jahnel and her husband, Jim, New Haven; and Fern Hughes and her husband, Jim, of Riceville; one brother, Melbourne Havig and his wife, Hattie, of Osage; and 30 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arnold in infancy, Alton "Swede" Havig and Everett Havig; and one nephew.
