A. H. Rowland,Life-long Resident of St. Ansgar, Dead
After an illness of five weeks duration, following a severe attack of heart disease, A. H. Rowland, a life-long resident of St. Ansgar, passed away last Friday morning at 10 o'clock.
Obituary
Arthur Henry Rowland was born January 14, 1867, near St. Ansgar, and died February 27, 1931, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Payne on the old homestead at the age of 64 years, 1 month and 10 days. His parents were Henry W. and Jennie Rowland.
When Arthur was 6 years old, the family moved to Lake Mills, Iowa, where the father was editor and owner of the Independent Herald for seven years. Following the death of the mother, they returned to the old homestead near St. Ansgar, where they resided until the children were grown, the boys doing the farm work.
Arthur remained at home until after his marriage to Miss Bertha Baldwin on September 20, 1898. With the exception of a few years spent at Lake Mills, Iowa, and Lansing, Minnesota, their home was always in or near St. Ansgar.
For thirteen years he was employed by the St. Ansgar Creamery Company.
He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife and five daughters; Mrs. Janet Coonradt of Stacyville, Mrs. Katherine Noble, Mrs. Bessie Noble, Mrs. Winnifred DeMoss, of Austin; and Eva; eleven grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters, A. C. Rowland, of Ft. Madison, Iowa; H. W. Rowland, and Mrs. F. W. Burroughs of St. Ansgar; Mrs. H. A. Sonberg, of Osage; one brother, Charles F., having preceded him in death July 17, 1929; five nephews and eight nieces, besides many other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church at St. Ansgar, conducted by Reverend Otis Moore. The words of his text, which were very comforting were taken from 2 Cor, 4-18. He also read the 14th chapter of John, a favorite Scripture reading of the deceased.
Burial services were conducted in the city cemetery.
