Funeral services for a rural Osage man, Willie "Bill" Weldin, 69, who died at his home on January 2, 1980, were held Saturday at the Champion Funeral Home. The Reverend David Presher, pastor, was in charge of the rites at the Champion Funeral Home and burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell.
Willie Erv Weldin was born in Mitchell Township, December 4, 1910, the eldest of the 11 children of Ervin and Charlotte Machaelis Weldin. He spent his entire life on the farm, assisting his parents and brothers with the farm work. In more recent years he was a self-employed radiator repairman.
Weldin held state and national honors in several divisions of trap-shooting competition, and was runnerup in the national shoot-off in Vandalia, Ohio, in 1957 in the Grand National Trapshooting meet.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers.
Surviving are four sisters: Mrs. Sadie Larson and Mrs. Jim Jones (Charlotte) of Waterloo, Mrs. Margey Curtis of Chicago; Mrs. Rose Wielan of Forest City; three brothers: Wain of Williams, Iowa, Charles of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and Jerry of Connersville, Indiana, nieces and nephews.
