Lloyd Berg 1903-1965
Lloyd G. Berg, son of Gunder G. and Mina Berg, was born in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, April 29, 1903.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran Church and remained steadfast in the Lutheran faith. He attended the Mona School. Lloyd, being the oldest son, found it necessary to leave school at an early age to be able to help his parents and family. Some of his early employment consisted of farm work, a short time at Hormel's, and clerking in Lyle stores.
On Aug. 4, 1936, he was united in marriage to Opal Richardson. To this union was born one daughter, Myrna Ann.
Most of his life was spent in the Lyle community with t h e exception of two years when he worked at a defense plant in Minneapolis. Before buying his home farm, he operated a grocery store in Lyle and for about two years, a store in Austin.
Lloyd was a devoted church worker. He was active in brotherhood and church choir for many years. He enjoyed singing and sang with many quartets in the Lyle community. Lloyd will be remembered as a devoted husband and a considerate brother to his family. His many kindnesses to them will always be remembered.
Lloyd passed away at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital after several months' illness,
July 28, at the age of 62 years and 3 months.He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. His daughter, Myrna Ann, preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 1940.
He is survived by his wife Opal; three sisters: Mabel Rustad of Menomonie, Wisconsin, Dora Carlson, and Helga Larson of Austin; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lyle, on July 31, with Pastor Merland Johnson officiating. Pallbearers were William Klusmeier, Eddie Fossey, Galen Carlson, Peter Anderson, Christian Olswold, Lewis Sola. Those from out-of-town attending, came from Menomonie, Wisconsin, Wayzata, Albert Lea, Austin, Minnesota, Northwood, St. Ansgar, Iowa.
Sweet memories will linger for ever.
