VETERAN OF 1ST WORLD WAR DIES
Farmer Near Orchard Dies at MinneapolisOSAGE, IOWA — Funeral services will be held for Vincent Blandin, 53, at 2 p.m. Friday at the Champion Funeral Home, in charge of the Reverend Glen Hartong, Methodist pastor. Burial will be in the family lot, in Orchard. He was a veteran of World War I.
Vincent Blandin was born July 12, 1892, at Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Blandin. There he lived until the age of 12, when he accompanied his parents to Orchard. He attended the Bailey and Orchard elementary schools and was graduated from the Osage High School. While in high school he was relief city mail carrier.
Following his graduation, he was a rural school instructor at the Grant School, then went to Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, where he farmed. He returned to teaching in Butler county, then was city mail carrier in Osage for a short time, returning again to teaching, this time at Wardell Independent district. He then became manager of the Farmers Lumber Company at Carnovan.
He entered the military service December 14, 1917, and served until his discharge on March 31, 1919, with the rank of 1st sergeant.
He then returned to the family home near Orchard farming until his health gave out. He entered the veteran's hospital at Des Moines where he remained for six months, and was then transferred to Minneapolis where he died Monday evening.
Survivors include four brothers, and one sister.
