OSAGE, IOWA — Funeral rites were held here Monday for Harry Clay McDowell, 80, and further rites will be Wednesday at Davenport, Iowa, with burial in Summit Cemetery.
He died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Glen Rogers, with whom he had lived since 1946. He had major surgery in May at Iowa City, and never recovered.
Born September 4, 1868, to Samuel and Maryetta McDowell, at Davenport and spent his boyhood there. He married Margaret Penry on February 19, 1896 and they established their first home at Davenport, and in 1912 moved to LeRoy, Minnesota, where they purchased a farm. They lived there until 1934, when they moved to Riceville, residing there until 1946, when because of ill health of Mrs. McDowell, they went to the home of their daughter to live. His wife died in February, 1948.
He was a lifelong member of the Baptist church.
He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Glen Rogers and a son, Harold, both of near Floyd, Iowa; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother; and three sisters.
