Elwyn Neeley

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 26, 1988 at the First United Methodist Church in State Center, for Elwyn R. Neeley, 65, of State Center. Graveside services were held later the same day at St. Ansgar Cemetery. Mr. Neeley died Tuesday, May 24, 1988 at a Des Moines hospital.

He was born October 7, 1922 at Plymouth, a son of Royal and Elsie Bowman Neeley. He attended rural schools near Plymouth until moving with his family to St. Ansgar where he completed his education.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines and Japan.

On April 14, 1944 he married Dorothy Wright and they lived in Osage until moving to State Center in 1969.

Mr. Neeley was employed by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship for 13 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Terrestrial Lodge 276 A.F. and A.M. and Cleo Chapter 303 O.E.S.

His mother and one brother preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; three children, Anne Newell of Des Moines; Lynn of El Paso, Texas, and Terry of Grinnell; his father, Royal of St. Ansgar; nine grandchildren ; two great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Hugh, Jean, Bill and Marion, all of St. Ansgar.
