Frank J. Stephens, 1916-2005

Framk J. Stephens, age 88, of Clinton, Iowa, died Saturday, January 1, 2005 at the Harmony House in Clinton. According to family wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, with burial at Osage Cemetery in Osage, Iowa.

Frank was born on July 26, 1916, in rural Howard County, Iowa, the son of John and Mildred (Rafferty) Stephens. He graduated from McIntire High School in McIntire, Iowa; where he was valedictorian of his class.

He married Doris Evenson on April 26, 1942 in Osage, Iowa. Frank farmed in Mitchell County, Iowa for several years before working for Standard Oil in Northwood, Iowa. In 1954 he moved to Clinton, Iowa, where he owned and operated Stephens Skelgas Appliance. He later worked for Kendrick Pest Control in Clinton. After his retirement, he delivered meals for Clinton Mobile Meals.

He was a member of First Congregational Church and very active with the Clinton Lions Club.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris Stephens of Clinton; a brother, Willis (Ione) Stephens of Fairfax, Virginia; a nephew, James Stephens of Fairfax, Virginia; two nieces, Suzanne Stephens of Kurten, Germany and Jayne Obst of Weimar, Germany; half-sister, Golda Brooks of Yuma, Arizona; two half-brothers John Stephens of Marshfield, Wisconsin, and George Stephens of Wichita, Kansas.

The Pape Funeral Home, Inc., Clinton, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
