January 1930, Little Cedar, IowaLittle Cedar Man George Hawkins died at age 81.
George Hawkins, for 30 years a resident of the Little Cedar vicinity, passed away last Wednesday at the advanced age of 81 years. Funeral services were held Friday, with interment in the Little Cedar Cemetery.
Besides the widow, three children survive: Mrs. Jennie Westbrook, living in Wisconsin; Eugene, in Wyoming; and Mrs. Bessie Winer, who has been at home with her parents.
Had Mr. Hawkins lived a few months longer, he and Mrs. Hawkins would have celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary

George Hawkins, Little Cedar taken by deathGeorge Hawkins, who lived near Little Cedar, died early Thursday morning at his home. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Little Cedar on Friday afternoon, the Rev. James officiating. Interment in the family lot at the local cemetery.
George Hawkins, son of John and Amanda Hawkins, was born in the state of NY, Nov. 23, 1849. He moved with his parents to IL and later to Rock Co., Wis., where he grew to manhood, and was united in marriage to Miss Orletta Shores, April 7, 1870. They soon left for Stacyville where they engaged in farming.
In 1900 Mr. Hawkins purchased a farm near Little Cedar, where they resided since. Four children were born to them, one dying in infancy. Those surviving are Eugene of Buffalo, Wyo.; Mrs. Jennie Westbrook of Beloit, Wis., and Mrs. Bessie Winer who assisted their mother in tenderly caring for their father during his long and serious illness of more than a year.
Mr. Hawkins was a kind, loving husband and father, a good neighbor and an honest citizen. Besides the bereaved wife, three children, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren mourn his departure.
