Henry Hjalmer Norby, 1887-1928
Henry Hjalmer Norby was born in Rock Grove Township, Floyd County, Iowa on November 10, 1887 to Iver and Gustava Hendrickson Norby. During his youth he attended the rural schools of his district and also the St. Ansgar seminary. He was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran church, and has always been an active and loyal member.
On February 22, 1912, he was married to Miss Matilda Olsen of Cedar Township, Mitchell County. Shortly after their marriage, they located on their farm in Cedar Township, which was their home up to the time of his death. Four children were born to this union, three of who, Gertrude, Lorraine, and Harvey, survive.
Besides his wife and children he leaves his father, Iver Norby, a brother, Adolph, and a sister, Clara, a nurse in the Presbyterian Hospital in Waterloo, and who tenderly cared for her brother during his last illness.
Mr. Norby enjoyed good health until about three weeks ago, when septicemia (blood poisoning) developed in one hand, which in spite of all that medical skill could do, ended his comparatively young life, January 16, 1928.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre in the Rock Creek Lutheran church, January 18th at 1 p.m. and interment was in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery. The large attendance and floral offerings bear testimony of the high esteem in which the deceased was held in his community.
