OBITUARY: Elise Nordbyhaugen Norby, 1879-1930
Mrs. Henry Norby was born in Hedalen, Valdres Norway on October 7, 1879 to Hans Andersen and Inger H. Grov Nordbyhaugen. She died in the Mercy Hospital, Valley City, North Dakota on July 19, 1930 after undergoing surgery.
The body was brought to Osage and services were held at 2 o’clock July 23rd at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, in charge of Rev. O.C. Myhre. Interment was in the cemetery nearby.
Mrs. Norby was born Elise Nordbyhaugen. She came to this country in the fall of 1903. She worked as a domestic in different homes in this area for a few years before moving to Cooperstown, North Dakota.
On January 1, 1907 she was united in marriage to Henry Norby, originally of the Rock Creek community. Mr. Norby had homesteaded near Hannaford, North Dakota in 1905, and the couple farmed there many years. Two years ago they retired to Cooperstown, North Dakota.
Several brothers and sisters in Norway survive her. Many cousins in the Rock Creek vicinity also survive Mrs. Norby.
