OSAGE, IOWA — Melbourne E. Havig, 76, of Osage, died on Monday, April 27, 1998, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage. The casket will be closed.

He was born April 18, 1922, in Osage, the son of Frederick and Ida (Hartwig) Havig. He was educated in the Osage schools and graduated from Osage High School in 1939. Melbourne was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage.

He married Maybelle Lundene on March 18, 1945, in Osage. To this union were born three sons. Maybelle died in 1972.

Melbourne married Hattie (Smith) Shultz on April 13, 1985, in Charles City.

He farmed his entire life northeast of Osage. Melbourne moved to Osage in 1986.

He is survived by his wife, Hattie, Osage; three sons, Douglas Havig, Osage; Bradley Havig and his wife, Rae Anne, Osage; and their children, Sara, Lindsay and Joseph; Gregory Havig and his wife, Pam, Osage; and their children, Spencer and Jason; three stepdaughters, Jane Tucker and her husband, Joe, Charlotte, N.C., and their children, Bobby, David, and Katie; Sandra Eddy and her husband, Marlin, Osceola, Iowa, and their children, Matt, Susannah and Carolyn; and Jo Ellen Bigelow and her husband, Bill, Urbandale, Iowa; three stepsons, Daniel Shultz, Memphis, Tenn. and his daughter, Kelsey; Mark Shultz, Charles City; and Dr. James Shultz, Hermitage, Mo.; four sisters, Dorothy Fleenor, Osage, Leona Richards and her husband, Glen, Carpenter; June Jahnel and her husband, Jim, New Haven, and Fern Hughes and her husband, Jim, Riceville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Maybelle; a sister, Grace Havig; an infant brother, Arnold; and two brothers, Alton and Everette.
