Lars B. Saug, 1863-1938
Lars B. Saug, son of Mr. and Mrs. Borger Saug, was born at Hadeland, Norway on March 17, 1863. At the age of 7 years, he came with his parents to America and located at St. Ansgar, Iowa. They later moved to a farm in Cedar Township where he continued to live until abut two years ago when he and his wife moved to Mason City, Iowa where they made their home with their daughters, Mrs. Emil Blomquist and Mrs. Stephen Fagerlie.
On December 12, 1884, he was married at St. Ansgar to Martha Paulson. To this union, nine children were born. Besides his wife, six of the children survive: Peter of San Antonio, Texas, Alvin, Henry, Oscar, Mrs. Emil Blomquist, and Mrs. Stephen Fagerlie, all of Mason City, Iowa. There are also two grandchildren surviving.
Since moving to Cedar Township, Mr. Saug had always been an active member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. In earlier days, he had served as trustee of the church. He had enjoyed good health until about four years ago. During this time his strength had been gradually failing and death came on July 9, 1938.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church on Monday at 2 p.m. Interment was in the Rock Creek cemetery.
