George H. Davis Funeral Held At United Methodist
Funeral services for George H. Davis, 91, who died at his home in Carpenter May 26, were held May 29 at the St. Ansgar United Methodist church with the Rev. Bruce Wittern officiating.
George H. Davis was born July 3, 1889 in Janesville, the son of William and Musetta (Emery) Davis. He attended the public school and grew to manhood in Janesville. He moved with his family to a farm in Worth county, and then to Carpenter.
During World War I Mr. Davis served in the Armed Forces. He was employed at the Carpenter Lumber Yard for about 30 years until his retirement.
August 28, 1944 he married Florence Ensrud. He enjoyed gardening, was active in the American Legion and community affairs, and served as mayor of Carpenter for 10 years.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Florence, of Carpenter; two step-sons, Duane and Robert Ensrud of Sioux City; one sister, Mabel Mulbarger of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ethyl Stoddard.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with Rev. Wittern in charge of committal services. Military honors at graveside were by Ogden-Nelson Post No. 618 of the American Legion, Carpenter.
