John P. Schwab

Funeral services were held Monday, October 29, 2001 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for John P. Schwab, age 74, of Osage. Fr. Philip Recker officiated and interment was in the Osage Cemetery. He died Friday, October 26, 2001 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, in charge of arrangements.

John was born Aug. 13, 1927 to Peter and Anna (Frank) Schwab at Osage. John attended Osage Community Schools where he excelled on the athletic field in football and wrestling. John also attended Loras College.

On Oct. 9, 1948 he was united in marriage to Hyllis E. Krogstad in Osage. John worked for Davidson's Gas and Electric, Amoco Fertilizer Division and the Iowa Department of Transportation. John was a member of the Osage Fire Department for 30 years from 1951 to 1981, serving as chief for 23 of those years. He was a member of the Iowa Firemen's Association, serving as president from 1969 to 1970. John was also a member of the Fire Chief's Association. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He loved his family very much and his strong faith and spirit was an inspiration to all of us. John had a passion for fishing. He enjoyed family gatherings and playing golf with his I.F.A. buddies. John was active in the Iowa Firemen's Association. His willingness to stand up for what he believed will always be remembered. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Enjoy the fishing Dad! In lieu of flowers, memorials will be sent by the family to the Mayo Foundation, Iowa Firemen’s Association and the Osage Fire Department.

Preceding him in death was his wife, of almost 40 years, Hyllis; his parents, Anna and Peter Schwab; four brothers, Alec, Pat, Andy, Feldie; sister, Margaret, nephew, Charles Schwab; and an infant grandson, Luke Allen.

Those that survive him include three daughters, Peggy J. Harris of Cedar Falls and her children, Marc (Heather) Coonradt and their daughter, McKenna of Waterloo, Timothy (Mandy) Coonradt of Waterloo; Dell Abben and her husband, Steven of Osage and their children, Peter and Kristina Borchardt, Jennifer (Rick) Dunn and step-child Derick Dunn of Alta Vista, Jim (Nikki) Abben and step-children, Hailee and Zacharee of Hiawatha, Jamie (Jeff) Lubbert of Aurora, CO; Karen Moore and her husband, Terry and their children, Hillary and Abby all of Winona, MN; two brothers, Adolph Schwab of Osage and Jake Schwab of Osage; two sisters, Rose Morrison and her husband, Don of Osage and Katie Randall and her husband, Rance of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews.
