Harry Dorsey Ball
Harry Dorsey Ball, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brinsley Ball, was born in Osage, Iowa, November 24, 1887, and died in Missoula, Montana, October 12, 1910, in his 23rd year.
To be taken away by the angel of death, just in the bloom of youth when life seems so desirable, and so precious, leaving a mother, father, brother, and sisters with blanched faces and crushed hearts, seems so sad and pitiful--but who knows: Who knows what evil, what temptation, what anguish he may have escaped? Death is not the worst thing that can come to us? We do know that the heavenly country is better than this, and that the soul redeemed by the Saviour's precious love may today walk the golden streets.
Harry was born in Osage, attended the public schools, worked in the nursery, attended the Methodist Sunday School and grew to young manhood in this city.
A little less that two years ago he went to Missoula, Montana, where he has prospered. He drew a claim and had invested in town property had a good position in the green house there. His sickness, typhoid fever, lasted a month, and although his mind was clam an clear most of the time, and he did not seen to suffer much, and everything that loving hearts and hands could do, and money procure, was done, yet it seemed at the last it must be God's will that he must go and death found him ready.
His three sisters, Mrs. Fred Watson of Coleville, Washington, Mrs. Henry Armstrong of Spokane, Washington, and Mrs. Bert Cutler of Kallispell, Montana, were at his bedside. He had a good nurse and had won many friends, all doing everything in their power to comfort and relieve him so far as possible.
The funeral services here held in Missoula, and as the sisters looked on his calm face they were comforted by the words of the choir, "Asleep in the Arms of Jesus", "Safe on His Gentle Breast" and "Lead Kindly Light".
The proprietor and foreman of the nursery and all their men were present and brought most beautiful floral tributes and designs. His body was taken to Kallispell, Montana, where in a sunny spot amid flowers her sleeps well.
Just before the body was lifted to the train, the proprietor and all Harry's work fellows with uncovered heads, bowed for a few moments on his casket in mute sorrow.
Tender comforting letters and flowers came to the mother, father, brother and sisters here, from then nurse and relatives there, telling all the particulars of Harry's passing on.
To Harry's young friends who got together here and sent a beautiful floral offering for his casket, his parents and relatives extend grateful thanks.
