Ronnie Gene Grinstead, 1942-2004

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Ronnie Gene Grinstead, age 62, of Charles City. He died Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the V.A. Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. His body was cremated.

Ronnie Grinstead was born January 31, 1942 at New Hampton, Iowa. He graduated from Osage High School, Osage, Iowa, in 1960 and from Muscatine Junior College in 1969.

He received a certificate from the American Red Cross for skills training for Human Services for Paraprofessionals and Module II: Casework Skills in S.A.F. and SMF & V and a special citation for exceptional volunteer service for 1990-1991 and a certificate of appreciation in support of "Operation Desert Storm," 1990-91.

He married Joyce Carrol Hinders on April 7, 1995.

He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from June 1960 to March of 1964 as an airplane mechanic and was stationed on the U.S.S. Lexington aircraft carrier.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Corrine Odden Grinstead and John Harvey Grinstead and a brother Jerry Grinstead.

He is survived by his children Ronnie Gene Grinstead, Shelia Marie Grinstead and a grandson Devon Rashad Grinstead of Virginia; brothers Bill Grinstead of Osage; Donald (Melva) Grinstead of Lewiston, Idaho, James (Janet) Grinstead of Osage, Larry (Barbara) Grinstead of Austin, Minnesota, Richard Grinstead of Tucson, Arizona, and David Grinstead of San Gabriel, California, and sisters Suzie (Les) Thurnau of Osage, Ruth (Bill) Johnson of Riceville, Alice Grinstead of Edmond, Oklahoma, Lynda (Joe) Retterath of Eagan, Minnesota, and Cyndy (Roger) Brumm of Stacyville, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
