RITES MONDAY IN OSAGE FOR MATILDA DAHLEN

Osage, Iowa - Funeral rites will be Monday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church for Mrs Matilda Dahlen, 91, who died Thursday evening at the home of her daughter in Milwaukee, Wis. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Mrs Dahlen, who had lived with her daughter the last three years, was born Matilda Gulbrandson, March 23, 1871, to the Gulbrand Gulbrandsons near Osage. She married Tallev Dahlen in Forest City where the couple lived for 15 years. She moved to Osage in 1932 when her husband died.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harold Champion, Milwaukee; and Mrs. Albert Kensrue, San Bernardino, Calif.; two sons Gilman, Milwaukee, and Alver, of Osage; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Olson, Osage, and Mrs. Oscar Johnson, Park River, N. D. Mrs. Dahlen was preceded in death by three brothers.

Anna Olava Mathilda Gulbrandsen was born March 23, 1871 near Nora Springs, Floyd, Iowa to Gulbrand Lundberg Gulbrandsen and Anne Olsdatter Wamstad (Hvamstad), the fourth of their six children.

1880: Gilbert Gulbrantson 52, Anna Gulbrantson 46, Lars Gulbrantson 16, Gillas Gulbrantson 13, Martin Gulbrantson 11, Oleva Gulbrantson 9, Bertha Gulbrantson 6, Martha Gulbrantson 4.
1885: Gulbrand Gulbrandson 57, Anna Gulbrandson 51, Lars Gulbrandson 21, Gilas Gulbrandson 18, Martin Gulbrandson 18, Tilda Gulbrandson 14, Louisa Gulbrandson 11, Martha Gulbrandson 8.

She married Tollef T. Dahlen on March 15, 1896 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

The couple had 4 children:
Alvert Tobias Dahlen (born December 21, 1896 Forest City, Iowa, died March 12, 1981, Osage, Iowa);

Alma Luellen (born April 12, 1899, Forest City, Iowa, died August 25,1987 California);

Myrtle Theresa (born April 17, 1901 Forest City, Iowa, died September 1, 1987, Milwaukee, Wisconsin) and

Theodore Gilman (born October 8, 1902 Forest City, Iowa).

1900: Tollef T Dahlen 39, Olava M Dahlen 29, Alver T Dahlen 3, Alma L Dahlen 1, James L Myers 30.

1910: Tolaf Dahlen 44[49], Olana M Dahlen 39, Alver Dahlen 13, Alma Dahlen 11, Myrtle Dahlen 8, Gilma Dahlen 6.

Found in the 1915 - 1930 censuses at Osage, Mitchell, IA:
1915: Matilda Dahlen 44.

1920: Tallev Dahlen 60, Tilda Dahlen 49, Alver Dahlen 23, Myrtle Dahlen 18, Gilman Dahlen 17.

1925: T Dahlene 65, Olava M Dahlene 53.

1930: Tollef Dahlen 70, Olava M Dahlen 59.

Anna Olava Mathilda died June 28, 1962 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
