Cora Mildred Groth Wahl was born November 13, 1893 on a farm northeast of St. Ansgar, Iowa the daughter of Halsten A. Groth and Nellie R. Lane Groth. On December 24, 1893, she was baptized by the Reverend Johan Olson with sponsors Marie Lane, Ragnild Groth, Andreas Groth, and Anton Groth. She was confirmed at First Lutheran Church on December 8, 1907 by the Reverend M. E. Waldeland.

Cora received her elementary education in the Spring Valley Country School, graduating from the St. Ansgar High School in 1912 followed by one year at the Cedar Valley Seminary at Osage, Iowa. In 1917 she received a BS degree from the University of Minnesota where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.

Cora taught botany at Central High School in Minneapolis until 1935 when she was married to Ingwald L. Wahl on August 17, 1935 at Osage, Iowa by the Reverend T. P. Solem. They mae their home on a farm northwest of St. Ansgar until they retired to St. Ansgar where Cora’s husband passed away on February 1, 1962.

As a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Osage until 1975, she was active in ALCW, Circle and the Church Library. After becoming a member of First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar in 1975, she was also very active in the First Lutheran Church Women and Esther Circle.

She was a member of the St. Ansgar Women’s Club and a charter member of the St. Ansgar Garden Club. Having an avid interest in birds, Cora was a Life Member of the National Audubon Society, Nature Conservancy and the National Wildlife Society.

Cora died March 16, 1989 at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents, Halsten and Nellie Groth, her husband, Ingwald and her brother, Dr. A. Holland Groth.

She is survived by one nephew, Dr. Aaron M. Groth, Jr. and one niece, Marjorie, (Mrs. William Beckwith), both of Auburn, Alabama; six great-nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
