Jennie Doyle, 1818-1895

Death of Miss Jennie Doyle

The friends of Miss Jennie Doyle were very much surprised to hear that her life had gone out so suddenly, at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning. They knew she was sick, seriously so, but did not anticipate her death.

Miss Doyle was teaching in Douglas township. A week ago Saturday her brother sent for her but she said she was not very well and thought she would remain over Sunday at her boarding place. On Monday following she got worse, was taken home and a physician was called to her bedside. The trouble was acute mania from which she was delirious all that time.

Monday night she became quiet and slept for a few hours, the first for nearly a week. While in that condition she quietly passed out of life and its troubles into eternity.

She was the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. William Doyle and born at Walton, Nova Scotia, September 19, 1818. Coming with her parents to this county in 1856, she resided here nearly forty years. For many years she was a teacher in this county and for a while in the public schools of Waverly.

She has worked hard to make special preparation for that work in which she took special interest. Her home was with her brother, Stephen Doyle near Riceville, most of the time but was often found with her sisters, Mrs. Greeley, Mrs. N. J. Moss, Mrs. Foster of Waverly and Mrs. E. P. Shipherd, of Osage. Miss Doyle was a lady of Christian character, and we think, a member of the M. E. church.

The funeral services occur today at the M. E. church in this city conducted by Rev. E. J. Lockwood.
