WILCOX

Ralph Wilcox was born in St. Lawrence county, N.Y. August 13, 1820, and died at the home of his daughter in Osage, May 28, 1904.

When a lad of fourteen he moved with his parents to Ohio, near the town of Seville, Medina county, where most of his youth was spent. He attended school at Norwalk, Ohio, and it was here where he became acquainted with Miss Hannah Thompson, daughter of Rev. Thomas Thompson of the North Ohio Conference and on July 3, 1845, they were united in marriage. To them were born seven children, five sons and two daughters, all of whom are living except one daughter who died in 1876. The remaining children are Ralph T. Wilcox of Topeka, Kansas; Thomas D. and W. F. of Marshalltown; R. B. of Kansas City; Rev. H. E. Wilcox of Olin, Iowa; and Mrs Ruth Heald of Osage.

When but ten years old Mr. Wilcox was converted and united with the church. In 1840, he was given a license to preach and in 1842 was recommended and received into the North Ohio Conference. After many years of active service he retired and the family moved to Iowa where two sons were then living. About fifteen years were spent on a farm near Gladbrook, and it was here in the year 1895, that he was called upon to part with his wife. Since that time he has made his home most of the time with his daughter, Mrs. Heald.

The funeral service was held at the home Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Clark of the Methodist church and the body was taken to Marshall town, for burial beside his wife.
