Obituary
Eva Sides, the subject of our sketch was born at Boliver, Westmorland, Co., Pennsylvania, April 25, 1866. She came with her parents to Mitchell Co., Iowa, in March 1874. Under the divine blessing she was converted to God, and joined the M. E. church at Mitchell during the ministry of the Rev. Mr. Hagar, in 1878. Death called her away November 17, 1886.
When only 15 years of age, she received a permit to teach school at Callender, Webster county, near Fort Dodge, Iowa. In 1884 she taught one term in the Wardell district, in this county, after that the junior department at Mona, closing her last term there in February of this year, 1886. During the last two terms her health was evidently failing.
She was very ambitious; while her whole department was that of cheerfulness; so much so, that she became the light of the home.
In all her afflictions she was very patient, never complaining, though often enduring great pain, nor did she ever cease to wear a pleasant smile.
When every other effort to restore her health failed, she was advised to try a change, so on the 22 of September, with her sister, Mrs. Stillman, they started for the old home of their parents in Pennsylvania. But the lovely mountain scenery brought no relief to her bodily sufferings; recovery was hopeless. They returned November 13, thankful that God had brought her home again to be with those she loved the most, if only to die among her own.
At one o'clock on Wednesday, November 17th, she passed away from among us; one who gave promise of usefulness to the church on earth to join, we believe, that which is triumphant to the skies.
Our loss is her infinite gain.
