Mrs. Marie Hansen, whose maiden name was Marie Low, was born in Hostrup, Denmark, February 16, 1826. Hostrup was at that time a part of Denmark but since the war of 1864 has belonged to Germany. She grew to womanhood in her native home, being reared in the Lutheran faith and confirmed in her home congregation. In the year of 1858, she was united in marriage to Mr. Hans Peter Hansen who survives her. They resided in their native home of Hostrup until 1871 when they emigrated to America, coming directly to Iowa. For a short time they stopped at Ft. Dodge and then came to St. Ansgar and settled on the farm northeast of town which was her home until death. Four children were born to this union. One died in infancy and one at the age of nine years. The other two, one son, Niss, who resides on the home farm and one daughter, Amelia, now Mrs. Sam Hanson survive her.
Mrs. Hansen enjoyed good health thru the most of her long life but her strength gradually failed during the last five years. Not long before her death she became afflicted with gall stones. Inflamation of the bowels followed and her death came suddenly and unexpectedly at four o'clock on the morning of June 13th.
The funeral which was conducted at the N.L. Church, by pastor Rev. Waldeland took place the afternoon of Wednesday, June 14th and her remains were laid to rest in the St. Ansgar cemetery.
