Nils Guldborg was born in Denmark June 9, 1855. He emigrated to America in 1878 and settled near St. Ansgar. In the fall of 1878 he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Carlson. Rev. J. Olsen officiating. This union was blessed with the birth of five children, of whom one is dead.
In 1883 they moved to St. Paul where they have since made their home. For a long time he held the position of car inspector for the Great Northern R.R.
For a number of years Mr. Guldborg's health has been failing. He was troubled with organic heart disease. The third of February the disease took a sudden turn for the worse and for many days he hovered near death's door. The 21st of February he was taken to a hospital where he received the best of treatment; but in spite of all that could be done he continued to fail and March 5th this loved one was called away from this place of sickness and death to the land of eternal joy.
The character of Mr. Guldborg can in no way be better shown that by the mourning of his countless friends on hearling of his death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning when all were given a chance to pay their last tribute to this loved one. His remains were then brought here by his family for burial, in compliance with his dying wish, for St. Ansgar was a place that was always held dear in his memory. Funeral services were held at the Norwegian Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Waldeland officating. His text was Psalm 55:22 "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee; He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." Many and beautiful were the floral offerings sent by the friends of this dear departed one.
Mr. Guldborg was a man that was loved by all who knew him. He had that noble virtue, honesty, that gives the possessor a high place in the hearts of his fellow-men. Another, and perhaps the most beautiful side to his character, was the great love he showed for his family and friends. He was ever doing for the ones he loved. But his love for his family and friends was small compared with his love for his Saviour. During his long, terrible sufferings he never lost faith in Him and often toward the last said, "I die believing in Jesus". And here is where the ones left behind find their comfort. We know that this one in now enjoying that peace, joy and happiness that is in store for all of us who but believe in His name. The mourning of dear ones for this good man should not be like that the mourning of one who has no hope, for we all expect to meet him again, if we like him, but live a life of purity and honesty. Mr. Guldborg leaves in this country a wife, Mrs. Anna Guldborg, four children, Louis, John, Esther, Adel and a brother, Henry Guldborg who mourn the loss of a true and loving husband, father and brother. The sympathy of all is extended to them in their trial.
