Lars J. Eidnes, 1860-1932
Lars J. Eidnes was born in Lofthus, Hardanger, Norway, on August 26, 1860. He was the third son of Johannes and Eli Eidnes. The years of his childhood were spent in his native country, with the exception of five years spent as a sailor. In March 1882, he came to this country, locating temporarily in Osage.
On March 19, 1888 he was united in marriage with Ingeborg Sponheim, who preceded him in death on March 4, 1923.
To this union six children were born: Mrs. Henry (Ella) Wamstad, Mrs. Peter (Clara) Erickson, Della and Elmer, all of this community; Lula, who died at the age of five months, and Oscar, who died at the age of thirteen years.
Two grandchildren also survive him: Loren Erickson and Betty Jane Eidnes. Two sisters, Ingeleiv Eidnes, of Nora Springs, Iowa and Mrs. Carrie Alstrop, of Chicago, Illinois and two brothers, Knut and Gunnar Eidnes of Norway also survive. Three brothers preceded him in death.
For a few years he was engaged in farming in Rock Township, and in 1895 he bought a farm in Cedar Township, where he lived until 1930 when he went to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Wamstad, of rural Nora Springs. The departed enjoyed good health until two years ago, but not until the last few months did his strength fail him. Since December 17th he had been confined to his bed. On February 25, 1932, he peacefully fell into that "blessed sleep from which no one ever wakes to weep." He reached the age of 71 years and 6 months.
Mr. Eidnes was brought up in the Lutheran faith and since coming to this community has been a faithful member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. Besides his immediate family, he is survived by a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. O.C. Myhre at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church on February 28th at 1 p.m. Interment was made in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery.
