OBITUARY: Victor L. Duryee, 1855-1937

Victor L. Duryee was born at Ossian, New York, September 25, 1855, to Andrew S. and Mary A. North Duryee. His childhood days were spent in New York, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. At the age of 19 he came with his parents ot Mitchell County, arriving at the home of Deacon Shupe February 25, 1874.

He united with the Wayne Baptist church in January of 1885. George Shupe, Mrs. Adeline Brown and daughter, Eunice, were baptised at the same time in the river by the old Scott mill, a hole having been sawed in the ice to make the baptism possible.

He married Etta E. Hall December 22, 1881. Four children were born to them: May E., of Port Jervis, New York; Harry E. and Ethel, wife of Francis Hall, both of McIntire; and Lola E., who preceded him in death, March 1, 1920, at the age of 29, one year prior to the death of her mother, which occurred June 22, 1921.

Death came to release him from his suffering Sunday, August 27, 1937, at about 4 p.m.. He leaves to mourn his loss three children, nine grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Francis Hall, at McIntire, Tuesday at 2 pm, and at the McIntire Baptist church at 2:30 pm, with Rev. Bodenham officiating. Burial was made in the Wayne cemetery.
