GILBERTSON, Anne 1851-1924

GILBERTSON, ASK, GOLBERG, KROUSE, HAUGERUD, KROGSTAD, VIGNESS

Anne Kristine Ask was born at Rock Prairie, Wisconsin, October 4th, 1851 and passed to the great beyond January 8th, 1924, at the home in St. Ansgar, having attained the age of 72 years, 3 months and 4 days.

While still a small child, she, with her parents, moved to Minnesota where they resided until she was eight years old. At this time her parents decided to move to Norway. There they remained a year when they returned to Minnesota. She made her home here until she was seventeen when she came to Mitchell township, Mitchell county, Iowa, with her father to prepare a new home in a new country. The rest of the family followed them in a few months.

From this pioneer home, in 1870, she was married to Gilbert G. Gilbertson. To this union were born five children, who, with the father, survive her. The children are: Lauritz, of Austin; Oscar, of St. Ansgar; Mrs. O.O. Golberg, of Enderlin, N.D.; Josephine, of St. Ansgar; and Mrs. P.W. Krouse, of Winter Park, Fla. She is survived by three sisters and three brothers, she being the first of a family of seven to break the circle. The sisters and brothers are: Mrs. O.O. Haugerud, of Melfort, Sask., Canada; Ole L. Ask of Rock Creek; Mrs. O.O. Krogstad of Osage; Andrew L. Ask of Silverton, Oregon; Mrs. R.M. Vigness, of Winnipeg, Man., Canada; and Anton L. Ask, of St. Ansgar, also seven grandchildren.

She has always, since her marriage, made her home in or near St. Ansgar with the exception of one year spent in Oregon.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and remained a faithful member of this church to the end. Her faith in our Good God was strong and all thru her long and painful illness, reading from the Word brought her comfort and peace.

Mrs. Gilbertson was ever a good neighbor and a kind friend. No friend or neighbor but felt the largeness of her heart by cheery words and gifts; for giving from her store was what she loved to do. She gave to friends to show her love and to the needy she gave to help them on. All who knew her will miss her, but it is in her home that the loss is greatest, for she was always faithful to her duty as a loving wife and mother. She was cheerful to the last, and all thru the last long fatal illness no word of complaint crossed her lips. She was ever patient and ready with cheery word to those who so faithfully and lovingly cared for her.

Services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. M.E. Waldeland, at the First Lutheran church, and on the eleventh day of January, surrounded by the flowers she so dearly loved, which were the tokens of the affection of her many friends and relatives, she was laid to rest in the N.L. cemetery.

Her favorite hymns, read by the pastor by request, were No. 698 and No. 666.

Card of Thanks

We deeply appreciate the kind expressions of sympathy and love shown us by friends and neighbors during the illness and after the death of our dearly beloved wife and mother, also for the lovely floral offerings. Especially thanks is extended to the choir for its beautiful song and to Mr. Arthur Dahl of Lyle, Minn., for the touching solos rendered.
