Funeral services were conducted last Friday afternoon, November 18, 1938, for Clarence P. Golberg from his maternal home and from the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Olaf A. Langehough in charge of the services, assisted by the Rev. W.F. Belling, pastor of the M.E. church, who conducted the services at the home and delivered the funeral address at the church. Interment was in the First Lutheran cemetery.

A guard of honor was furnished by the Walter T. Enneberg Post of the American Legion of which Mr. Golberg was a member, with more than 50 county Legionaires in attendance, representing all the local posts of Mitchell county.

Miss Clare Moe sang two songs at the services accompanied on the organ by Mrs. E.K. Allen. They were "Sometimes We'll Understand" and "O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go."

Pallbearers were L. R. Falk, A.C. Tessman, W.A. Moe, S.A. Kleinwort, J.F. Berstein, A.B. Olson. Honoray pallbearers: George Benson, Dr. J.C. Westenberger, W.H. Eggleston, H.H. Moeller, H.B. Hanson, O.A. Rosel, Jack Gardner.

Clarence P. Golberg, whose death occurred so suddenly on Monday, November 14, was born at St. Ansgar, Iowa, September 1, 1892. His entire life has been spent in this community, save for a short perid during which time he lived in Osage.

He was baptized by the Rev. Sigurd Olson and was confirmed in the First Lutheran church by the Rev. M.E. Waldeland. In 1909 he was graduated from the St. Ansgar high school, following which he took a business course. Later he attended the Coyne School of Engineering in Chicago.

He served his country during the World War as a member of the Engineering Corps of the Eleventh Division and received his honorable discharge therefrom in February, 1919. He was a charter member of the Walter T. Enneberg Post No. 358 of the American Legion, St. Ansgar, and has been a continuous and active member ever since, serving one time as the Post Commander.

Upon his return from service he entered the garage business in this city, operating the St. Ansgar Garage continuously until the fall of 1936, when ill health compelled him to retire.

He was a patient sufferer during a long siege of malta fever. Through the constant loving care of a devoted wife, he was able to make a trip South in hope that a change in climate might restore his health. But in spite of rest and care, he never fully recovered.

Death came suddenly, and most unexpectedly, as we know, but "Goldie" as he was affectionately called, had felt the possibilities of an early passing and had given much serious thought to that matter.

Honest in all his dealings, honorable, broadminded, charitable, a patient sufferer, a staunch and true friend, "Goldie" will be greatly missed. He served his community, county, state and country in various ways and always most efficently. He served on the city council from April 1, 1928, until January 1, 1937. By virtue of a sunny disposition and a charming personality, his friends were legion.

On June 1, 1927, he was married to Helen Rogers of McAllen, Texas. She together with his mother, Mrs. Josephine Golberg, his brother Byron and his sister, Irma, live to mourn the loss of a devoted husband, son and brother. His father preceded him in death when Clarence was nine years old.

Hosts of friends join in extending deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.

AUTO COLLISION
TAKES THREE LIVES

St. Ansgar, Iowa, Nov. 15, 1938 — Mitchell county authorities today investigated a head-on automobile collision in which three persons were killed and three others were injured seriously. The accident occurred last night a mile and a half north of here.

The dead are Clarence Goldberg, 45, St. Ansgar; Charles Rust, 15, and Robert Adams, 16. The youths lived on a farm near here.

Charles Libersky, Jr., 15, was near death. Goldberg's wife and Catherine Rust, 14, sister of Charles Rust, were reported in serious condition.

The four young persons were returning home from high school and the Goldbergs were traveling toward St. Ansgar.

Coroner George Krepelka said the exact cause of the crash was not determined. He said one of the autos apparently was traveling near the center of the road, possibly confusing the other driver, causing him to lose control of his machine.
