John J. Peterson, 1868-1940
John J. Peterson, a long-time resident of the Rock Creek vicinity, died at Mason City last week. On Saturday, funeral services for the deceased man were held at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, with interment being in the Rock Creek cemetery.
John J. Peterson was born at West Salem, Wisconsin on January 30, 1868. At the age of four years he came with his parents to Floyd County, Iowa. He married Mathilda Huset, and to them were born two sons: Orin, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Milo, of McGregor, Iowa.
In 1925 Mr. Peterson retired from farming and moved to Mason City, where he lived until his death. He was a man of quiet disposition, but friendly and likeable. While living in the county, he was a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. After moving to Mason City, he was affiliated with the Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife and their two sons, named above; also two brothers, Sever and Martin, both of this community.
The deceased enjoyed good health until about three months ago. Heart disease terminated his temporal life on August 21, 1940.
Funeral services were held at the Patterson Funeral Home in Mason City, with the Rev. O.L. Wigdahl in charge, and at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church on August 24, 1940, conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre.
