Funeral services for Lewis A. Gilbertson, 72, of St. Ansgar, who died Monday, December 21, 1953, were held Thursday, December 24, at his home south of St. Ansgar with a Christian Science service read by Sherman Yelland of Mason City.
Lewis Adolph Gilbertson, son of the late Gilbert and Ragnild (Haugrud) Gilbertson, was born December 20, 1881, on the ancestral farm south of St. Ansgar. Mr. Gilbertson was the sixth of a family of seven children of whom Nellie and George survive. Three sister, Annie, Louise (Mrs. M.O. Lebacken) and Mina (Mrs. Nels Larsen) and a brother, James, preceded him in death.
Lewis Gilbertson attended school in Olin district and later Iowa State college in Ames. Lewis and his brother, George, have operated the home farm all of their lives and have always been known for their prompt adoption of the latest methods of farming and the use of up-to-date equipment. They bought the first combine used in Mitchell county.
In 1908 he joined the Christian Science church and has always been a faithful and devout member.
Mr. Gilbertson's death came just one day after he had observed his 72nd birthday anniversary. He and his brother were involved in a highway accident east of Manly last Monday, and his injuries proved fatal.
Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery here.
