Funeral services for Knut E. Gunderson, 77, who died at Mercy hospital, Sunday, April 25, 1971, were held Wednesday, April 28, 1971 at the Zion Lutheran church in Clear Lake with the Rev. M. Severson officiating.
Knut Elvin Gunderson was born October 25, 1893 in Newburg twp., Mitchell County, the son of John and Barbara Thorson Gunderson. He was baptized December 16, 1893 and confirmed November 24, 1907 in First Lutheran church, St. Ansgar. He attended the Newburg twp. rural schools. Knut farmed with his father until he entered service in World War I, receiving his discharge in 1918.
March 28, 1923, he married Lula Nelson. They farmed in Mitchell County until moving to the Ventura-Clear Lake area in 1938. For the past 16 years he was employed by the city of Clear Lake. He was a member of Zion Lutheran church and a charter member of the Walter T. Enneberg Post of the St. Ansgar American Legion and had received his 50 year pin.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Lula; son, Cyrus, Ventura; daughter, Gloria (Mrs. Raymond Hunst), Rose Creek; four grandchildren, Barbara Gunderson Hollatz, Clear Lake, Terry Hunst, Bloomington, Minn.; Patricia Hunst Johnson, Louisville, Ky.; Penny Hunst, Rose Creek; one great grandchild, Brad Hollatz, Clear Lake; a brother, Gilbert of Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada; and two sisters, Mrs. Ella McCulla of Minneapolis and Mrs. Mary Gaarder of Wheatland, Wyoming, and nephews and nieces.
Committal serices with military rites, were held at the First Lutheran cemetery, St. Ansgar.
