Funeral services for Irene Groth, 93, who died Saturday, May 2, 1992, were held Wednesday, May 6 at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating.

Irene Cora Helmina Dahl Groth, the daughter of Halvor K. and Christina Nelson Dahl, was born July 7, 1898 at St. Ansgar. She was baptized by Rev. Johan Olsen and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church by Rev. Waldeland. After completing her public school education, she entered nurses training at Park Hospital, Mason City. Due to illness she did not complete her nurses training. Before her marriage Irene did practical nursing in the community and also assisted her father in the furniture and undertaking business of Dahl and Schroeder, especially during the time Mr. Schroeder was in service.

August 11, 1920, she was united in marriage to William Groth. This union was blessed with three children, William H., Homer, who died in 1928, and Marilyn. In later years Irene was in partnership with her husband in the East End Grocery in St. Ansgar. These past years, she had worked in Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, Osage, and at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center. Irene was a life time member of First Luthern Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and organist. She was active in the women's organizations of the church, receiving her life membership pin because she was a past president of the Church Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Homer; her parents; three brothers, Carl Dahl, Iver Dahl and Elmer Dahl, and one grandson.

Surviving are her son, William J. Groth of Cresco; a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Wilderson, Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Burial was in the First Lutheran Cemetery.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, was in charge of arrangements.
