Myrtle Christiansen, 1909-1996
Myrtle Christiansen, 87, rural Nora Springs, Iowa, died Sunday, August 4, 1996, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Roger Hoppenworth officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery.
Myrtle was born June 14, 1909, in rural Nora Springs, the daughter of Andrew and Kristina (Franstad) Hanson. She attended rural schools in Mitchell County and Osage High School. She was confirmed May 13, 1923, by the Rev. O.C. Myhre.
Myrtle was united in marriage to Carl Christiansen on June 25, 1931, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church. They farmed in Mitchell County.
She was a lifelong member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church where she served in leadership positions in RCCW, Rebekah Circle and Lydia Mission Circle. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and knitting.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were blessed with many of her sweaters. She donated many of her hand-knit items to the Rock Creek bazaars.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Carl Christiansen of Nora Springs; three daughters, Nancy Folkerts and her husband, Dale, of Rudd, Dorothy Schmidt and her husband, Francis, of Nora Springs, and Helen Randolph and her husband, Randy, of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Dr. Paul Christiansen and his wife, Barbara, of Mount Vernon, and George Christiansen of Nora Springs; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Glen Hanson and his wife, Alvera, of Nora Springs, Arnold Hanson and his wife, Betty, of Nora Springs, and Olaf Hanson and his wife, Dorothy, of San Jose, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The Champion Funeral Home in Osage is in charge of arrangements.
