REED MILLARD DIED SATURDAY

Funeral services for an Osage man, Reed Millard, 82, were held Monday at the Methodist church in Osage. Mr. Millard, father of James Millard, Osage Mayor, died Saturday at the Osage Nursing Home where he had been a resident for the past year. (Jan. 27, 1966) The Rev. Robert Smith, church pastor, was in charge of the services and arrangements were by C. R. Champion and Sons. Burial was in the Osage cemetery.

Reed Nicholas Millard was born in Mitchell county, on a farm near Brownsille, March 8, 1883, the son of Elmer and Mary Nicholas Millard. He attended the Mossville school, the Barker school in Liberty township, and Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage.

As a young man he left the United States to homestead in Saskatchewan, Canada. His marriage to Francis Gertrude Dieterich of New Haven took place in Milestone, Saskatchewan, in 1910. In 1928 the family returned to Osage. He was in the employ of the Osage Greenhouse for 18 years.

Mr. Millard is survived by five children: Inez, Mrs. Harold Teeters, of Greene; Bertha, Mrs. Matt Kramer, Jeanne, Mrs. Hubert Schumacher and Reed Millard of Minneapolis and his son James of Osage, eight grandchildren, his three sisters, Mrs. Inez Dunn; Nettie, Mrs. Gersham Lashbrook; and Bessie, Mrs. Harry Johnson, Osage.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, his parents, one brother and one sister.
